SPM 2024 Begins: Ministry Focuses on Attendance and Readiness
The 2024 Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) examination has commenced this week, involving Form 5 students nationwide. This critical examination serves as an academic milestone for over 400,000 candidates, including special needs candidates and two 63-year-old candidates from Negeri Sembilan.
97% Attendance for SPM Candidates
The Ministry of Education Malaysia (MOE) reported an encouraging attendance rate of 97% for SPM candidates in the 2024 academic session. However, there is a gap involving approximately 10,000 candidates who have yet to confirm their attendance.
Education Minister Fadhlina Sidek stated that the MOE is actively updating relevant information to ensure all registered candidates can sit for the examination without issues.
Preparations for Potential Flood Risks
Addressing the potential flood risks that might disrupt the examination process, Fadhlina noted that the current situation remains under control. Nevertheless, the MOE is ready to activate Op Payung, an initiative designed to assist affected candidates in the event of flooding.
"We have made early preparations, including temporary evacuation centers and logistical support, to ensure candidates can take their examinations safely and in a controlled environment," she said.
Hopes and Support for Candidates
Fadhlina also expressed her hopes that all candidates can sit for their exams calmly and achieve excellent results. She called on parents, teachers, and the community to provide full support to students during this examination period.
"SPM is not just an academic test but an opportunity to shape the future of students. We are committed to ensuring a smooth examination process," she added.
