Siti Nurhaliza Remains Dedicated, Plans to Visit Gaza When Safe
KUALA LUMPUR: Renowned songstress Datuk Seri Siti Nurhaliza is waiting for the right time to visit the Afwa Al-Afiyah School in Gaza, established with her husband, Datuk Seri Khalid Mohamad Jiwa, through the Nurjiwa Foundation.
Although a ceasefire was recently announced by Israel, Siti revealed that her visit had to be postponed as they wait for conditions to fully stabilize on her husband’s advice. “I deeply wish to meet the teachers and students there. For now, I communicate with Dr. Mohanad, who oversees the school’s affairs, including more than 100 students and eight teachers,” Siti shared.
Due to ongoing instability, the school’s teachers and students have had to relocate multiple times to ensure their safety. Volunteers from the Nurjiwa Foundation played an integral role in facilitating these moves. “Currently, everyone from Afwa Al-Afiyah School is safe in Khan Yunis. Alhamdulillah, they are doing well. Let us pray for this conflict to come to a true end,” Siti expressed.
She also addressed the challenges in rebuilding the school after recent attacks. “Even though the school was affected, education continues at temporary camps. Their spirit inspires us. The Nurjiwa Foundation remains committed to rebuilding the school once the situation stabilizes,” she added.
Additionally, Siti highlighted the foundation's focus on meeting winter needs by providing warm clothing and food to the school community. “Winter essentials are crucial for them. We continue to support them with food and clothing to help them get through these difficult times,” Siti said.
Siti further commended the resilience of the Gaza community, who remain steadfast in their pursuit of education despite facing enormous challenges. “Even though their school has been bombed multiple times, they are determined to rebuild. My husband and I are equally determined to continue supporting their efforts.”
She also called on everyone to pray for peace in Gaza and the safety of its people. “I sincerely hope to visit Gaza one day. Insya-Allah, when it is safe, we will definitely go,” Siti shared during a recent signing event under her company, SN Legacy Sdn Bhd, in the capital.
